Company Name:Brit InsuranceJob Title:Senior Data ScientistRoles, Responsibilities and Daily Tasks:(the more information the better as it allows us to be more precise in our recruitment)(*Be as detailed as possible)Responsible for all machine learning explorations and statistical models within Brit?s Innovation department.You could be addressing problems from automated risk pricing and highlighting high risk policies using large external datasets through to processing ariel imagery for efficient claims after catastrophic weather events.You?ll be responsible for the full ML lifecycle: experiment design/data analysis, feature engineering, optimisation, validation, deployment, and monitoring.You?ll work with Innovation Engineering to deploy and serve the models.You will make use of pre-trained models (e.g. from huggingface, or Azure) and create new models to address Brit?s largest problems.Collaborate with Brit?s wider Tech&Data functions to bring Innovation?s explorations to market.Identification of opportunities in the current data and processes that could be improved by the application of AI.Essential Experience and Skills:(*List in order of importance)Understand the difference and trade-offs of various algorithms, e.g. when would you want a supervised vs unsupervised approach, or parametric (Linear Regression) vs non-parametric (KNN) models.Understand the difference and trade-offs of different orchestration modes, e.g. micro-models vs model pipelines.Concrete understanding of statistical analytics, data visualisation, and data storytelling.Extensive experience leading ML projects from identification through to production.Understanding of core NLP techniques.Knowledge of how CI for the testing and deployment of models operates.Nice to have Experience and Skills:Insurance, financial, or risk-based knowledge.Have experimented with self-hosted or hosted LLMs.Terraform or other IaC.Containers or container orchestration.Azure.Desired Years of Experience:Size of business:Not from big corporates. We?re ideally looking for someone from a Series C- start-up or an autonomous sub-department within a larger org (e.g. WhatsApp within Facebook).Size of software team:Other:Ideally not career academics looking to transition.
