Social Video Intern – New Scientist Location: Kensington, London Contract: Full time Job Introduction New Scientist, the world’s most popular weekly science and technology magazine, is recruiting a social video intern for a 6-month paid placement commencing in April or May 2023. Founded in 1956 for “all those interested in scientific discovery and its social consequences”, New Scientist’s teams in London and around the world cover international news from a scientific standpoint and ask the biggest-picture questions about life, the universe, and what it means to be human. Our social video intern will be based in London with our video team. Here, you'll learn how to produce scientific videos, from idea to publication, and learn how to create video for our 9 million-strong social media audiences across TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and other platforms. Main Responsibilities You'll source footage from scientific researchers, script and edit short-form social videos and post them across our platforms. Alongside this you'll have the opportunity to come with us on shoots and be trained in camerawork. You’ll also receive foundational training in news writing and may have the opportunity to take part in our podcasts and events. You will be paid the London living wage and will leave the internship with a showreel that demonstrates your skills. Person Specification The only entry requirements are that you have completed a science, technology, engineering, mathematics or computing degree and that you have a demonstrable interest in video production or journalism.
