Ecologist/BNG Specialist

Location:
North West, Merseyside
Description:

Opportunity: Due to our clients swiftly growing workload, they are looking to bring in a highly skilled and versatile Ecologist, with a particular knack for Biodiversity Net Gain related work. Could that individual be you? This opportunity should be considered if you’re looking for a position with a clear route of progression within the ecology industry, demonstrated by the fact this company must expand as a direct result of its popularity within the sector. You’ll have the chance to take on a leadership role for the new expansion, helping shape the Ecology team how you see fit. Although you’ll be based out of the lively Liverpool studio office, you’ll be working on innovative projects all across the UK, helping shape a more positive environmental future. Responsibilities: As a leading Ecologist/BNG Specialist, one of your main responsibilities will naturally be focussing on Biodiversity Net Gain, organising and carrying out biodiversity impact assessments, handling BNG option assessments relating to planning applications and handling all stages of Biodiversity Gain plans, including draft creation and reaching agreements. You will need to be an ambitious team player and comfortable taking on a leading role for the new team as the company plans to continue growth of the department over the next 2-3 years. Collaboration will also be key as well as you’ll be working closely with the landscape and planning department, providing expert advice on ecological matters and concerns. Another appealing responsibility with the role is you won’t be expected to carry out many surveys beyond Phase 1, as these will be handled by freelancers known to the company, allowing for more time to be focussed elsewhere. You will only be expected to report into the Liverpool office once per week, meaning a key responsibility will be keeping on top of your own workload, self-managing and working effectively as an autonomous member of the team. Requirements: The key requirements for this position revolve around your experience within ecology, specifically around Biodiversity Net Gain. You will need to have an excellent working knowledge of standard BNG practices and the associated report writing and planning requests, as well as coordination of BNG assessments. You will need to have experience purchasing biodiversity units and credits in relation to offsetting schemes. Outside of BNG, you will also require a broader understanding of standard ecological practices, including UK Habs surveys (Phase 1), EcIAs, EPSM licenses and Biodiversity Enhancement & Management planning. A full, clean UK driving license is also required as there will be a travel element to the role.
