The Avenue Cookery School is a fun family-run company teaching cookery to all ages and abilities! We are a small team bursting with energy, drive and good food! We seek a like-minded, FLUENT English-speaking Chef Teacher Volunteer to join our team and assist our chefs who will offer guidance and support. Our team have years of experience and heaps of knowledge ready to share with the right person! The candidate needs to be highly efficient, reliable, take initiative, speak and understand English at a high level, have some experience and passion in cooking, know their way around a kitchen and have a good laid-back character! This role is a great way to learn more about food, cooking and teaching! If you have a passion for food or fancy pursuing a career in food, you've come to the right place! It is not for the faint of heart as our kitchen is fast-paced and will involve helping the chefs set up (mis en place), cleaning, tidying and general kitchen upkeep, including washing up and eventually helping and guiding students. Those who are afraid to get their hands dirty need not apply! No reason for clock watching, thumb twiddling or personal phone use - a get-things-done attitude is essential! No need to be an expert but we won't have time to teach you from scratch as we have classes to run and our students are the main focus but if you are hands-on and keen to learn there is a lot for you here! It is very important that the person we work with is hard working but at the same time easy going as being a fun family run business it is not a 'clock-work' operation. We are all straightforward and to the point so need someone who can take constructive criticism well and can be honest back. Being highly organised and tidy, yet flexible in the role is a must as we are a small team and, when needed, all pitch in together but you also need to be able to work independently. We can be flexible to a certain degree as to which classes you work on as our classes run days, nights and weekends but you will need to be regularly available to make it a worthwhile experience. London-based travel will be covered and excellent food provided! Possibility for future paid work.
