Electrical Engineer – Onshore Substation Engineer

Description:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / Onshore Substation Engineer to join a team across various locations in Ireland. This role is critical for supporting the design and review of high voltage substations and electrical power infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering engineering solutions throughout all project phases, from initial feasibility to site construction and commissioning. Requirements: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services Engineering, or Building Services Engineering (Level 7/8). Working towards Chartered Engineer status or equivalent. Proven experience in the power transmission and distribution industry. Familiarity with regulatory and client-specific health and safety requirements related to HV plant systems. Proficiency in engineering software such as Dialux, Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Strong communication skills for preparing technical reports in English. Responsibilities: Design and review primary plant layouts, cable arrangements, earthing, and protection schemes for high voltage substations. Provide engineering design input across all lifecycle stages of electrical power projects, including feasibility studies and detailed design. Collaborate with client project teams and internal disciplines, including civil, structural, and environmental engineering teams. Conduct full design reviews of drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable standards and industry guidelines. Perform HV plant design calculations, including instrument transformer sizing, surge arrester selection, and earthing studies. Prepare and monitor technical submittals for client approval and attend to project construction and commissioning stages. Demonstrate a strong understanding of major HV equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgear.
