Job DescriptionOur company has a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team of scientists in London and exciting plans to expand our London presence initially at the Francis Crick Institute in 2024, and from 2027 in our new 'state of art' London Discovery Research Centre and UK headquarters at the hub of London's Knowledge Quarter. As part of this expansion, to deliver on our mission of turning breakthrough science into meaningful and impactful medicines, we plan to establish a new Immunology group within our London Discovery. We have a new opportunity for a highly motivated and passionate Senior Scientist in Cell Biology with expertise in iPSC Neuroscience to join our group at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre (LBIC) in St. Pancras, London. Your fixed-term contract will be for 12 months, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge discovery biology research with a focus on investigating mechanisms of neurodegeneration and therapeutically targeting neurodegenerative diseases. Upon application, please upload a cover letter describing your experience of designing and performing cell culture assays (including any use of high-throughput instrumentation), of using cell models to study molecular mechanisms related to Alzheimer's Disease, and of performing analyses of protein and/or mRNA localisation in CNS tissue (e.g. immunohistochemistry, RNA in situ hybridisation, histological staining), and with imaging and image analysis of tissue sections. Primary responsibilities include experimental design and execution of in vitro and ex vivo experiments including high content imaging. What you will do: Design and execute in vitro and ex vivo studies to support drug discovery projects for neurodegenerative diseases Use standard techniques including Western blot, ELISA, flow cytometry and imaging Design and implement novel disease-relevant cell culture systems Understand mechanisms of action using relevant assays Keep up to date with literature in the field Contribute to laboratory running tasks and be a conscientious member of the team Oral and written communication of data in a clear and concise manner to the appropriate teams and stakeholders Acquire and apply knowledge of mechanisms of neurodegeneration to a range of drug discovery programs Collaborate with members from other functional areas, including medicinal chemistry, biologics, in vivo and in vitro pharmacology, imaging, genetics and translational sciences Work with external academic, biotechnology, and contract research organisations What you will need to be successful in this role: Education: PhD with relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and/or academia, or MSc with considerable relevant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience Experience: Experience of preparing and maintaining cultures of primary cells from CNS, recombinant cells and/or CNS-derived cell lines is essential Experience in establishing and performing a wide range of cellular assays is essential Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment is essential Experience with immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation and/or standard histological stains in CNS tissue, high-throughput imaging, and image analysis is highly desirable Experience with cell models used to study the molecular basis of Alzheimer's Disease would be beneficial Exposure to high throughput instrumentation, including plate readers and liquid handling instrumentation would be beneficial Experience with performing flow cytometry would be beneficial Skills/Competencies : Ability to adapt to changing priorities Passion for innovation and problem-solving Team player with effective written and verbal communication skills Good organisational and time management skills Excellent record-keeping skills Your role at our company is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and we're counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement.
